It is hard to have bad time in any of Greek cities, especially it should be said about Athens, the capital of Greece and one of the oldest cities in the world. You need a lot of time to explore all the historical sights of the city. The most famous tourists’ rout starts from the Gazi area, then follow the Plaka and the Monastiraki and finishes near the Acropolis Hills. A bright example of the contemporary architecture of Athens is the Athens Olympic Complex built for European Athletics Championships. Moreover the city can boast having more than 50 museums, the exhibits of which represent the world treasures. The Saronic Islands are situated in the suburbs of the capital. It is a good place for a holiday and is very crowded especially in weekends. One of the most popular and the most visited Greek islands is Crete. It has a lot of tourists’ attractions; a great deal of them is concentrated in the towns of Rethymnon, Loutro, Matala, Fodele and others.

If you want to experience cosmopolitan nightlife or enjoy peaceful atmosphere, choose the Cyclades islands. Among all of them Mykonos is on the top rated destinations. Prominent landmarks of this territory, beautiful scenery, the Archaeological Museum with its marble sculptures, works of ceramics and luxurious jewelry fill up your vacation with marvelous memories. As for the Ionian Islands in Greece, they are known for their small villages and beautiful beaches. Corfu suggests the opportunities for the adventurous activities, such as kayaking, windsurfing, snorkeling, scuba-diving. The main attractions of Zakynthos are Kerri – Pitch springs, monastery of Agios Andreas, Skinári – Blue Grotto and others. The most impressive of all Greek islands is for sure Lesvos with its rich flora and fauna, tiny villages, showing the tourists all the delights of Greek provincial life, and of course, sandy beaches.

The city of Corinth is considered to be the most interesting in sense of historic heritage. The most notable of all sights are the Temple of Apollo, the remains of Aphrodite’s Temple, the Byzantine fortress, and numerous ancient theaters. A lot of ancient ruins can be found in Rhodes. The must visit places are the following: The Grand Master’s Palace (the symbol of the city), The Clock Tower, and the church of Panaghia Bourgou. In Rhodes there are many museums, which are worth your attention: the Museum of Modern Art, the Municipal Epavlis, and Folklore Museum. You have no right to say that you know everything about Greece without visiting Thessaloniki – the second-largest city and the capital of Macedonia. It is the epicenter of Byzantine, Ottoman, and Jewish architecture, the place of the most important cultural event in South Eastern Europe – the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. So, Greece is a good place for anybody, because there are many different summer resorts, also the country offers great possibilities for winter vacations.
